Standards for Permanent Credential

The standards listed below reflect the minimum requirements to work as an educational interpreter in this state.

  • Pre-Service Education:  AA/AS
  • Skill Verification: RID, EIPA 4.0 or above, BEI (all require conversion to state certification, and EIPA 4.0+ converts to the Restricted Certificate in Education (RCED))
  • Knowledge Verification:  No
  • Renewal Timeline:  Annual
  • Continuing Education:  20 hours annually, 3 required in Ethics

Standards for Provisional Credential

  • Is a provisional credential available?   Yes
  • What is required for the provisional credential? Provisional Certification in Education (PCED) with application, fee, school district placement, written exam within 60 days and performance exam within 60 days after passing written. Provisional Certification with an application, have passed the TEP but failed the BEI performance exam, and work under a qualified supervisor.
  • How long can one hold a provisional credential?  Varies
