Standards for Permanent Credential

The standards listed below reflect the minimum requirements to work as an educational interpreter in this state.

  • Pre-Service Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Skill Verification: EIPA 3.0+
  • Knowledge Verification:  EIPA:WT
  • Renewal Timeline:  5 years
  • Continuing Education:  90 hours per renewal cycle
  • Additional Comments:  

Standards for Provisional Credential

  • Is a provisional credential available?   Yes
  • What is required for the provisional credential?  HS Diploma, 10 Contact Hours Annually, and completion of an ITP, sign language interpreter/transliterator certification, SLPI Advanced or higher OR pass the EIPA pre-hire screening
  • How long can one hold a provisional credential?  Three years
