Boys Town EIPA Workshop: Literary Devices in ASL Literature

The EIPA Diagnostic Center is excited to offer four video conference workshops for the 2022-2023 academic year. The workshops are designed for interpreters working in K-12 classroom settings, community interpreters with an interest in educational interpreting, future interpreters, K-12 interpreter mentors, deaf educators, and individuals supervising educational interpreters. The descriptions below may change slightly at the discretion of the presenter.

“Literary Devices in ASL Literature”
Presented by Casey J. Analco, B.A.
Casey J. Analco, B.A. is currently working as a content developer at
Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He loves to spend time with his
family. He graduated from Gallaudet University with a Master of Arts
degree in Linguistics. He is considering pursuing a Ph.D., focusing on
his area of passion: ASL Literature.
The presenter will discuss and provide examples of ASL literary
devices used in storytelling and ASL poetry. Using English texts
that incorporate rhyming, rhythm, and other English literary
devices, participants will be guided through exercises and activities
demonstrating how these devices can be incorporated to ensure
that students that are Deaf have equal access.
