Professional Guidelines for Interpreting in Educational Settings

The information provided in this publication creates a framework that broadly reflects the quality of services required to support students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs. This publication is the first edition of a national effort to identify educational interpreting standards and appropriate considerations for interpreter qualifications, roles, responsibilities, ethical conduct, and appropriate hiring practices.

State Requirements for K-12 Interpreters

The NAIE State Map Project provides information on the minimum state requirements for educational interpreters working in K-12 settings. These requirements were pulled directly from the regulatory documents available for each state and may be different from the requirements for community interpreters. The goal of this project is to highlight the current inconsistencies of qualifications for educational interpreters and move towards a more standardized field.

Educational Interpreter Code of Ethics

The Educational Interpreter Code of Ethics (EICOE) was published in 2021 and we continue to promote its application and use in the field.
